Demwe Lower and Upper Hydro Power Stations on Track for Construction

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Athena Demwe Power Limited (New Delhi, India), Athena Energy Ventures Private Limited (New Delhi), and Energy Infratech Private Limited (New Delhi), which are united in the development of the Lohit River, are planning to build two hydroelectric power stations between August 2011 and October 2018. The Demwe Hydropower Stations, on the Lohit River, will provide the local grid with more than 3,500 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy when complete.

The above alliance is planning to wrap up the detailed design of the Demwe Lower Hydro Power Station sometime in September of this year. It plans to begin construction of the power station, which is to be near Te-ju, India, about 1,800 kilometers from New Delhi in the Arunachal Pradesh Province, next August. Construction will entail the building of a powerhouse and the installation of five 342-MW vertical Francis hydro tubine generators. When completed during the second quarter of 2016, the US$1.4 billion Demwe Lower Hydro Power Station is anticipated to produce 1,750 MW.

Preliminary design of the US$1.4 billion Demwe Upper Hydro Power Station has just begun and is expecting to continue until the end of the year. Assuming everything goes according to plan, construction is expected to begin during the first quarter of 2012. Construction will involve a powerhouse and the installation of six 300-MW vertical Francis hydro tubine generators for a total production capacity of 1,850 MW. Athena Demwe, Athena Energy Ventures, and Energy Infratech plan to wrap up construction of the Demwe Upper Hydro Power Station during fourth-quarter 2018.
