Diverse Energy to Build Ammonia Powered Fuel Cell Manufacturing Plant in Northeast England

Researched by Protel Associates Limited in alliance with Industrial Info Europe (Galway, Ireland)--Diverse Energy Limited (West Sussex, United Kingdom) is planning to construct a new factory in Northeast England to manufacture fuel cells powered by ammonia to generate electricity for remote cell phone communication masts around the world. The PowerCube is an environmentally friendly alternative to high-polluting diesel generators, which currently are used for telecommunications networks where power infrastructure is often relatively poor.

The system consists of a power system housed in an eight-by-eight foot robust steel box that uses stored anhydrous ammonia as its feedstock. The chemical passes through an 'Ammonia Cracker' to generate hydrogen and nitrogen. The hydrogen is used to power twin PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell systems to generate a constant 24V or 48V electrical feed.

Diverse Energy has established an office at Wilton on Teesside and is working closely with the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), to develop the ammonia-powered fuel cells and plans to establish a production plant by 2012. The plant could employ up to 350 when it becomes operational.
