Enbridge Purchases Whitetail Peaking Station in Northern Alberta

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Enbridge Incorporated (NYSE:ENB) has purchased the 186-megawatt (MW), simple-cycle, Whitetail natural gas peaking station from BowMont Capital and Advisory Limited. This facility is located in Northern Sunrise County, Alberta. The details of the purchase were not released.

When completed, the facility will provide electricity during peak moments to the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. Depending on the load demand, these peakers may run many hours a day or just a few hours a day. The units are efficient and have a fast response time, and can generate electricity within 10 to 20 minutes of starting up.

The project is now in the permitting process. It is anticipated that the permits will be received this fall and construction will begin in the summer of 2015. Four General Electric LM6000 natural gas-fired combustion turbines will be delivered to the Whitetail Peaking Facility. These units will be supplied with natural gas by NOVA Gas.

The natural gas will be transported by pipeline approximately 2 kilometers. The environmental impact of using natural gas as the fuel of choice is expected to be very low, as the units will burn a cleaner product.
