Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The environmental impact assessment of the 700-megawatt (MW) Hepo combined heat and power plant expansion project recently received approval from China's Ministry of Environmental Protection.
The Hepo thermal power plant, located between the Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan Railway and the Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan Expressway in eastern Yangquan City, is an older thermal power plant that is operated by Shanxi Hepo Power Generation Company Limited (Yangquan, Shanxi), a joint venture of Gemeng International Energy Company Limited (Xi'an, Shanxi) (85.26%) and the Government of Yangquan City (14.74%). The power plant has a current installed capacity of 300 MW, including two 50-MW units commissioned in December 1991 and October 1992 and two 100-MW units commissioned in June and December 2000.
The expansion project will be furnished with two 350-MW supercritical, pump-condensing, indirect air-cooling units and two 1,080-ton-per-hour supercritical boilers with dry-ash furnaces. The project will be adopted with limestone-plaster wet flue gas desulfizuration without bypass and a gas-gas heater.
The project will also be furnished with bag dust removers, low nitrogen combustion technology, and selective catalytic reduction. The project will be furnished with a 210-meter chimney. Upon the implementation of the project, the two existing 50-MW units and the two 100-MW units, as well as 46 small boilers will be shut down.
The project will have an annual average heat efficiency of 58.93%. Total investment in the project will be about $490 million, including $48 million for environmental protection.
