E.ON Climate & Renewables Completes $288 Million Windfarm in Texas

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--E.ON Climate & Renewables (Chicago, Illinois) has completed construction and is slated to commence full commercial operation of the $288 million, 180-megawatt (MW) Papalote Creek Windfarm project near Taft, Texas, which is E.ON's first south Texas project.

Construction for the project began in the fall of 2008 and was completed late this summer. E.ON Climate & Renewables anticipates full commercial operation of the facility by the end of October. The project consisted of constructing 109 Vestas Wind Systems (Randers, Denmark) V82 model wind turbines, each rated at 1.65 MW, that, once operational, will generate nearly 180 MW of renewable energy to power more than 53,000 Texas homes. CPS Energy will purchase up to 115.5 MW of the plant output capacity, under a 15-year power purchasing agreement.
