Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The examination meeting for the feasibility study report for China Resources Power Holdings Company Limited's (Hong Kong) (HK.00836) Xijiang Coal-fired Power Project was held in Yunfu City, under the organization of China International Engineering Consulting Corporation (Beijing), from May 27-28, 2013. The feasibility study report prepared by Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute (GEDI) (Guangzhou, Guangdong) passed the examination of the expert panel, according to an announcement from the GEDI on June 3.

The China Resources Xijiang Coal-fired Power Plant is located in Duyang Town, Yuncheng District of Yunfu City, in southern China's Guangdong province. The power plant plans to build two 660-megawatt (MW), ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units, as well as a high-efficiency electrostatic dust remover, a limestone-plaster wet flue gas desulfurization unit, a low-nitrogen oxide burner and selective catalyst reduction devices for nitrogen oxide control in the initial stage. Total investment of the Phase I project will be about $800 million.

Early in 2006, China Resources Power signed an agreement with the local government and kicked off pre-stage preparation for the project. In September 2006, the preparation of a feasibility study report for the project was completed and passed the examination of the expert panel. However, the project didn't receive any approval from the state government until the beginning of this year. In January 2013, the project received consent from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation. On May 5, 2013, the GEDI received a mandate from the owner to conduct revision on the former feasibility study report.

According to the current feasibility study report, the project will be built to replace small coal-fired units with larger ones. Upon completion, the project will meet the increasing power demand in the Guangdong grid and greatly improve the local environment through energy conservation and emissions reduction.
