Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit of Zhejiang Energy Group's (Zheneng) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang) Changxing Gas-fired Cogeneration Power Project was connected to the grid on June 21. From the kick-off of the main works in November 2012, it took less than eight months for the project to achieve its first online operation, according to an announcement from Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Company (ZTPC) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing) and the project contractor, on June 26, 2013.

The Zheneng Changxing Gas-fired Cogeneration Power Project, located in Zhicheng Town, Changxing County, in eastern China's Zhejiang province, is one of the 14 gas-fired cogeneration projects listed in the "Immediate Action Plan" issued by the government of the Zhejiang province in 2011. The project is furnished with two 400-megawatt (MW), 9F-type combined-cycle units, which are manufactured by Shanghai Electric Corporation (Shanghai) with technology from Siemens AG (NYSE:SI).

In June 2011, in order to alleviate Zhejiang's power shortage, the provincial government created the "Immediate Action Plan for the Construction of Natural Gas-fired Cogeneration Projects in Zhejiang Province." The plan involves building 14 gas-fired cogeneration projects with a total installed capacity of 7.93 gigawatts (GW), and it requests that these projects be commissioned in 2012 and 2013.

Foundation piling work on the project was kicked off on July 18, 2012. The first bucket of concrete for the main powerhouse was placed on September 17, 2012. From the erection of the first steel structure for the main powerhouse on November 1, 2012, to the achieving of first online operation, it took only seven months and 21 days.
