Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Maintenance personnel at Iatan Power Station, a coal-fired plant in Weston, Missouri, took the 914-megawatt (MW) Unit 2 offline during the early morning of Thursday, January 8, after experiencing complications with the units' transmitters. The station is owned by Kansas City Power & Light (Kansas City, Missouri).
Plant contacts said that the transmitters had frozen because of the cold weather, forcing the unit into an outage. They say they plan to return the unit to service by the weekend to help battle the low temperatures.
The Iatan Power Station has a total capacity of 1,639 MW. Unit 1 remains online at full power.
