Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Iatan Power Station, a coal-fired power plant in Weston, Missouri, experienced another unplanned mishap after returning from a major outage. The station is owned by Kansas City Power & Light (Kansas City, Missouri).
The latest blow came last week, when the 914-megawatt (MW) Unit 2 was taken offline after workers found a leaking boiler tube. Maintenance personnel said they were confident the unit would be returned to service Wednesday evening, once repairs have been completed.
Unit 2 returned from a turbine overhaul maintenance outage in early November, where several components were changed out and environmental upgrades were performed. After briefly returning to service, the unit incurred a forced outage, where several boiler tubes were blown.
The Iatan Power Station has a total capacity of 1,639 MW.
