Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--GE Oil & Gas (Perth, Australia), a division of General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut), completed the final lot of subsea trees to be supplied for the Gorgon upstream project.
GE Oil & Gas announced that it had completed the assembly of subsea production trees on the September 5, 2013. The contract, awarded to GE Oil and Gas in May 2008, includes subsea infrastructure consisting of manifolds, subsea trees and wellheads, along with the provision of pipeline termination equipment, production control systems, and installation. GE has delivered operational support as part of the package.
GE has been working on the Gorgon project, as well as other contracts, for more than five years from its relatively new oil and gas operations business centre in Jandakot. It also has been working at fabrication yards and offices in Norway, Singapore, and in Aberdeen and Nailsea in the U.K.
GE has succeeded in producing the largest subsea trees to be manufactured by the company. The 7-inch, full-bore trees are now on the way to the GE Oil and Gas service and training facility in Jandakot, Western Australia, where pre-installation testing will be undertaken prior to transportation to its final destination: the Greater Gorgon natural gas fields. In total, 20 subsea trees were manufactured.
The subsea infrastructure's combined weight is 10,000 tons. The equipment is being installed in water depths of 1,350 meters (4,429 feet).
The Gorgon project includes a 15.6 million-metric-tonnes per annum LNG production plant; upstream facilities; carbon capture storage; onshore and offshore pipelines; a 300-terajoule-per-day (285 million square cubic feet per day) natural gas processing plant; monoethylene glycol unit; a power station; and additional infrastructure at the downstream site on Barrow Island.
The most recent update on the $52 billion Gorgon project that has been released by Chevron Australia Pty Limited (NYSE:CVX) (Perth, Australia) is dated from early August. The onshore facilities and the offshore project installation is progressing well. The subsea umbilicals that connect the subsea infrastructure to the land-based LNG plant have been installed. The umbilicals are a total 195 kilometres (121 miles) in length, beginning at the shore crossing on Barrow Island and ending at the Greater Gorgon fields.
