Guardian Industries Is Building a Float Glass Plant in the United Kingdom

The engineering, procurement and construction of the plant was awarded to WSP Group of Leeds, United Kingdom. The civil construction and erection is already well on the way to meet the fall 2003 commission deadline. The proposed 700 metric-ton-per-day plant would produce float glass to be used in the architectural and residential industries, and would provide employment to over 300 area residents.

The Goole plant will use state-of-the-art equipment and technology similar to the recently commissioned 700 tons-per-day float glass plant in Czetochowa, south central Poland. The cost of this high tech facility is approximately $180 million (USD).

Guardian industries began in 1932, as a windshield manufacturer and now, it is a leading manufacturer of float and fabricated glass, and one of the world's largest mirror manufacturers employing over 19,000 people worldwide. Although Guardian Industries only made its European debut as recent as 1981 with the construction of a grassroot plant in Luxemburg, it now operates 22 float glass lines worldwide, with plants in Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, South America and North America. The company will continue to grow through acquisition, expansion and grassroot projects.
