Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking $4.49 billion in planned industrial project kickoffs and completions in fourth-quarter 2018 in Harris County, Texas, home to Houston and the surrounding industrial areas. The Chemical Processing Industry, with more than $2 billion in projects, leads in terms of project value, followed by the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, with $1.8 billion.

Among the top projects to kick off in the quarter is Bayport Polymers LLC's (Houston) polyethylene unit addition at its facility in Pasadena. Bayport Polymers is a joint venture of Total SA (NYSE:TOT) (Paris, France) and Novealis Holdings LLC, itself a joint venture of NOVA Chemicals Incorporated (Calgary, Alberta) and Borealis AG (Vienna, Austria). The unit will produce 1.38 billion pounds per year of high-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene. Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated (NYSE:JEC) (Dallas, Texas) is the design engineer on the project, which is expected to take about three years to complete. Also in Pasadena, LyondellBasell Industries NV (Houston) is preparing to construct an oxyfuels unit addition to produce methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) and ethyl tert-butyl ether (ETBE). Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas) is the engineer, and S&B Engineers and Constructors Limited (Houston) is the contractor. The project is expected to wrap up in the summer of 2021. Down the road in Seabrook, Odfjell Drilling (Bergen, Norway) is preparing to construct an ethylene terminal addition at its existing 2.4 million-barrel chemicals terminal. The project involves adding a refrigerated storage tank to export ethylene and natural gas liquids to help meet growing global market demand. The project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2019. JGC America Incorporated (Houston, Texas) is engineer on the project, which has an estimated total investment value of $300 million. In Houston, the George Bush Intercontinental Airport is gearing up for the replacement of a terminal. The existing Terminal D will be replaced with a 780,000-square-foot facility with 15 gates to accommodate wide-body aircraft. Fentress Architects (Denver, Colorado) and STOA International Architects Incorporated (Houston) are architects on the project, which is expected to kick off before the end of the year and take about four years to complete. Among the projects set to be completed in the quarter is Evonik Industries AG's (Essen, Germany) construction of a grassroot butene-1 plant in Bayport. The facility will produce 100,000 tons per year using 110,000 tons per year of ethylene supplied by pipeline. Construction began in the first quarter of 2017. Also set to wrap up in the quarter is Intercontinental Terminals Company's (Deer Park, Texas) chemical terminal tank additions at its facility in Pasadena. The project involves constructing 18 tanks to increase chemical storage. The $60 million project began earlier this year and is expected to be wrapped up before the end of the year.
