Hindustan National Glass to Expand Glass Plant in Nasik, Maharashtra

Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--Hindustan National Glass and Industries Limited (Kolkata) is expanding the existing capacity of its glass plant in Nasik, Maharashtra, to 1.2 million metric tons per year at a cost of $22 million. The project is commissioned for the end of 2011.

The demand for glass is increasing day by day, both for packaging and infrastructures. The glass industry in India is worth about $2.5 billion. The container glass industry, which includes products for liquor, beer, pharmaceuticals, soft drinks and food, is worth about $870 million, and the flat glass industry, which is largely used in building construction, is worth about $750 million.

Global demand for flat glass will increase 5.5% annually through 2012. Indian demand for flat glass has increased about 12% to 15% during the past two to three years, and is expected to grow at about 3.8% per year. Glass is good for noise control, energy conservation, and from an environmental perspective.
