Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Hyundai Heavy Industries Company Limited (SEO:009540) (Ulsan, South Korea), plans to construct a $90 million industrial power transformer manufacturing plant in Montgomery, Alabama.
The company is currently bidding for a general contractor to construct a four-building, 270,000-square-foot complex that will include office space, a training center, a main assembly shop and a fabrication shop. The new plant will produce industrial transformers that weigh up to 500 tons and can be used by most utility companies. Site preparations and groundbreaking for the new plant began in August of this year and is now complete. A general contractor for the building will be selected this month, after which construction will start. Overall completion of the new plant is anticipated by the spring 2012. Approximately 500 new jobs will be created.
W.S. Newell Construction Company (Montgomery) performed the grading for the new plant. Goodwyn, Mills & Caywood (Birmingham, Alabama) performed other site preparations. The firms moved approximately 200,000 cubic yards of dirt on the 40-acre site in the South Montgomery Industrial Park.
