Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Clinton Nuclear Generating Station, which is located near Clinton, Illinois, reduced power today on Unit 1. Officials plan to take the unit offline tonight to begin making repairs. The station is owned and operated by Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC) (Chicago, Illinois).

Unit 1 was taken down after employees detected a leak in the drywall. Officials said that this issue has plagued the facility since November, and it appears to be getting worse. They believe it should only take a few days to complete the work. Officials hope to return Unit 1 to full power by the weekend.

The Clinton station is capable of generating 1,043 megawatts at full load. It has a single General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) Generation II boiling water reactor; its design is BWR-6, with a Mark III containment structure.
