Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Jacobs Engineering Group received two contracts in the United Kingdom this month in the clean category. One is an essential project for a refinerys capability to generate low-sulfur fuels for the diesel market and the other to provide resource enhancement services to the Nuclear Decommissioning and Major Projects Department (ND&MPD) of BNGSL (British Nuclear Group Sellafield) on the delivery of major projects at the Sellafield and Capenhurst sites.
Total France has awarded the company two separate contracts for the provision of basic and detailed engineering and procurement for a clean fuel facility on Totals (PARIS:FP) (France) site at Immingham, North Lincolnshire. Total investment in the project will exceed $409 million. The project is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2009.
Under the resource enhancement contract Jacobs will provide a range of project delivery services to support NDA and BNGSL efforts to accelerate facility cleanup with the main objective being the promotion of faster and less expensive delivery of cleanup and construction projects at the site. In the next financial year ND&MPD will oversee $1.2 billion on spending and Jacobss new contract which started this month. There is a lifetime plan for the $26 billion cleanup on which the department has 4,000 staff members.
Sellafield is the UKs largest nuclear reservation, where spent nuclear fuel is reprocessed and recovered nuclear material is developed into new nuclear fuel. The site is undergoing a program of cleanup of legacy waste and facilities shutdown concurrent with the reprocessing and fuel manufacture operations. Capenhurst is home to the worlds first gaseous diffusion plant decommissioning project. It also houses modernized and upgraded facilities in the former diffusion plant to store uranic materials prior to their long-term use within the nuclear fuel cycle. The combined facilities are owned by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and employ over 12,000 people managed by BNGSL.
