Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--JTEKT North America (Plymouth, Michigan), a manufacturer of automotive steering systems and driveline components, is under way with plans for more than $150 million in expansions in Piedmont, South Carolina, and Morristown, Tennessee, and the creation of 205 jobs.
JTEKT Automotive Tennessee is currently constructing a $50 million expansion of its power steering pump-manufacturing plant in Morristown, Tennessee. The company is planning a 35,000-square-foot expansion of the die-casting operation, with plans to launch a new pump technology product by 2013. The expansion is due to JTEKT producing a new engine part that will go into Nissan cars. The expansion will include the addition of new die-casting machines and assembly equipment to supply aluminum components for steering and driveline systems. Approximately 125 jobs will be created when the expansion is completed and operations are at full capacity.
JTEKT also is planning a $50 million expansion of its automotive product manufacturing plant in Piedmont, South Carolina, by constructing a 100,000-square-foot building addition with the installation of new production equipment to expand the existing product line and increase production capacity.
Finally, the company is planning a $52 million expansion in Piedmont by constructing a new facility adjacent to the existing plant. The new plant will increase the company's driveline component capacity and flexibility. Approximately 80 jobs will be created in Piedmont over the next two years, once the expansions have been completed and are fully operational.
