Katayama Alimentos Bolsters Poultry Investments in Brazil

Katayama Alimentos Ltda is planning a series of investments over the coming years at its poultry complex in Guararapes (São Paulo), Brazil.

These plans include new poultry houses for chickens and quails, which would add 280,000 birds to the current 4.25 million poultry population, and expand egg production from 1 billion to 1.15 billion eggs per year. Katayama Alimentos also will construct new free-range poultry clusters in two phases between 2021 and 2023, which will house a further 480,000 birds and increase egg production by another 400,000 per day.

In the industrial area, the company intends to expand its pasteurized liquid egg unit, which currently produces 350 tons per month, and construct a new powdered egg unit to manufacture 30 tons per month.

Katayama also plans to build a $14 million grassroot egg farm in Guararapes, as part of its Pe de Galinha project, which will hold up to 1 million birds and produce 320 million eggs per year.

The total investment for these projects comes to $29 million and will be applied between 2021 and 2023.
