Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Kings River Conservation District (KRCD) (Fresno, California) has started construction on the $50 million, 97-megawatt Fresno County Peaking Project, located in Malaga, Fresno County, California. KRCD decided to move forward with the project after California Department of Water Resources agreed to acquire the project's total generation output under a 10-year power purchasing agreement signed in mid-August 2004.
Construction on the project started earlier this month and is scheduled to begin full commercial operation in June 2005. The project will consist of two 45-megawatt natural gas-fired GE Power Systems LM6000 SPRINT combustion turbine generators, which will operate in a simple-cycle peaking capacity. The project will also feature state-of-the-art air emissions-reduction technology including selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and water injection for the reduction of NOx emissions. Catalytic oxidation will also be utilized for the control of CO emissions. Once operational, the new peaking plant will generate a total of 97-megawatts for the growing demands of Fresno County.
