The Philippines' National Capital Region, also called Metro Manila, will be placed on community quarantine for at least 30 days starting Sunday, March 15. President Rodrigo Duterte addressed the country Thursday evening and announced the stringent measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The government also will limit travel in all 17 cities and municipalities in Metro Manila, and suspend non-essential government offices and schools in the area.
