Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than 140 projects with a combined total investment value of more than $7.1 billion that are planned to kick off in the U.S. Midwest market region in the first quarter of 2012. The Midwest region includes the states of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. Missouri leads the region in terms of the overall value of projects, primarily because of two large automotive sector projects.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) (Dearborn, Michigan) plans to expand its assembly plant in Kansas City, Missouri. The plant will be retooled and equipment added to expand production of the F-150 pickup. A new line will be added to manufacture the Transit full-size van, and a new stamping plant will be constructed to make sheet metals for the Transit.

In Wentzville, Missouri, General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) plans to construct a 500,000-square-foot building addition to add a new production line and implement other improvements. As usual in the region, wind power projects are contributing significantly to planned projects. CPV Ashley Renewable Energy Company LLC (Braintree, Massachusetts) hopes to begin construction on a 200-megawatt (MW) grassroot windfarm in North Dakota by the end of the quarter. The windfarm will be situation north of Ashley, North Dakota and will take about a year to complete. The project has an estimated total investment value of $400 million.
