NEA Announces Third Batch of Wind Power Projects to Be Approved in 12th Five-Year Plan

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The National Energy Administration of China (NEA) recently issued the third batch of wind power projects to be approved in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), according to an announcement from the NEA on March 11, 2013.

According to the NEA, there are a total of 491 wind projects with a total planned installation capacity of 27.97 gigawatts (GW), including 247 megawatts (MW) for Beijing, 246.2 MW for Tianjin; 1,424.5 MW for Hebei; 2,520 MW for Shanxi; 490.5 MW for Liaoning; 121.2 MW for Shanghai; 1,427 MW for Jiangsu; 548 MW for Zhejiang; 589.8 MW for Anhui; 1,045.5 MW for Fujian; 505 MW for Jiangxi; 1,725 MW for Shandong; 698 MW for Henan; 764.3 MW for Hubei; 593.2 MW for Hunan; 1,460 MW for Guangdong; 393 MW for Guangxi; 346.5 MW for Chongqing; 785.5 MW for Sichuan; 1,206 MW for Guizhou; 3,042 MW for Yunnan; 99 MW for Tibet; 1,450 MW for Shaanxi; 2,095 MW for Gansu; 495 MW for Qinghai; 1,389.5 MW for Ningxia; and 2,279 MW for Xinjiang (including 297 MW for Xinjiang Production and Construction Corporation).

The approval plan for Heilongjiang, Jilin and Inner Mongolia will be issued separately and is not included the list. This figure is about 87% higher than the second batch of wind power projects to be approved in the 12th Five-Year Plan issued by the NEA in March 2012, but three more regions--Ningxia, Gansu and Xinjiang--are excluded in last year's list.

Following the rapid development in past years, the installed capacity of wind power in China is now the highest in the world. As of the end of 2012, China's installed capacity of wind power in 62.37 GW, an increase of 32.7% year-over-year. However, due to the restriction of grid connections or weak local demand, about 20 billion kilowatt-hours of wind energy were given up in 2012, and the utilization hour of wind power in some individual province or region dropped to about 1,400 hours (national average is 1,890 hours).

In order to promote the full utilization of wind power resources, the NEA specially arranged four additional demonstrative wind power projects with a total planned capacity of 0.75 GW, to demonstrate a better use of wind energy. Therefore, the total planned capacity of the above wind power projects will be 28.72 GW.
