Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--German Wind Turbine major Nordex (FWB: NDX1) (Hamburg, Germany) completed repowering of the Kreekraksluis windfarm in the Zeeland region of the southwest province in the Netherlands. On completion of the repowering project, through 31 wind turbine generators (WTGs) of 2.5 megawatts (MW) each, the installed generation capacity of the windfarm has increased to 77.5 MW.

Nordex has supplied N100 wind turbines to this revamp project. The project is an initiative of four Dutch companies: Eneco NV (Rotterdam, South-Holland), Delta NV (Oude-Tonge, South-Holland), Winvast BV (Bunnik, Utrecht) and Scheldewind BV (Bergen Op Zoom, North Barabant).

The Kreekraksluis Windfarm originally had 26 turbines of 500 kilowatt (KW) each with a total capacity of 13 MW. Commissioned in 1996, the windfarm was operated by Delta NV. Dismantling of the windfarm began in mid-2012. Out of the 31 newly installed WTGs, 16 are owned by Delta, seven turbines by Eneco, six by Scheldewind while the two others are owned by Winvast.

Nordex in April 2012 bagged the turnkey contract for repowering the wind farm. As per the terms of the contract signed with Nordex, the equipment supplier also is responsible for operation and maintenance of the plant for a period of 15 years from the date of commencement of generation.

Nordex designs, manufactures and supplies wind turbines. Currently, Nordex manufactures two platforms of wind turbines, rated 1.5MW to 2.5 MW. The 1.5 MW series is mostly preferred in the Asia-Pacific regions, while the 2.5-MW WTGs are used in Europe and American windfarms.

The Netherlands has taken up various initiatives to develop renewable energy in the country. With a current installed windpower generation capacity of approximately 2,500 MW, the country has set a goal to reach 6,000 MW by the end of 2020.
