POWER
EPA: U.S. Power Plant Emissions Fell Last Year - U.S. power plant emissions of pollutants fell last year as the industry continued a switch from coal to natural gas, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said on Friday. The reductions occurred, despite a 2% rise last year in electricity demand in the lower 48 U.S. states, mostly due to the transition off of coal-fired power. The EPA said emissions of smog components nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide last year dropped 4% and 10%, respectively, compared with 2021. Emissions from power plants of carbon dioxide fell 1% compared with 2021, the EPA said. (Reuters)
EARNINGS REPORTS
Pemex Reports Fourth-Quarter Loss, Full-Year Profit - Mexico's state-owned oil company Pemex reported a net loss of 172.4 billion pesos (US$8.84 billion) in fourth-quarter 2022, compared with an revised loss of 194.4 billion pesos (US$10.59 billion) in the year-earlier period. The company did manage a US$1.2 billion profit for all of 2022. (Reuters)
NATURAL GAS
U.S. Natural Gas Futures Jump 7% - U.S. natural gas futures jumped about 7% to a one-month high on Monday on forecasts for more demand this week than previously expected and a drop in output so far this month. In addition to forecasts for colder weather next week that should keep heating demand higher than normal for this time of year, analysts also noted that gas prices have soared about 31% over the past four days due in part to a jump in U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. On its first day as the front-month, gas futures for April delivery rose 18.3 cents, or 7.2%, to settle at $2.731 per million British thermal units, their highest close since January 27. (Reuters)
