Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte recently announced an Inter-Agency Committee that will work toward establishing a Nuclear Energy Program. The Philippines is expected to see a surge in electricity demand over the coming years.
The Nuclear Energy Program Inter-Agency (NEP-IAC) will be headed by the Philippines' Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), along with other government agencies. The NEP-IAC will study the viability of nuclear energy and its utilization, beyond the Philippines' mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant. The assigned agencies have been given 60 months to conduct and complete the studies, starting July 24.
