SAMIR Completes Commissioning of 40-Megawatt Cogeneration Unit in Morocco

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Societe Anonyme Marrocaine de l´Industrie et du Raffinage (SAMIR) has recently commissioned a new cogeneration unit at its Mohammedia facilities in Morocco that will supply power and steam to the newly modernized refinery units.

The new cogeneration unit, which Bateman Litwin NV (LSE:BNLN) (Amsterdam, Netherlands) built under an engineering, procurement and construction contract, is equipped with a GE Energy MS6001B turbine coupled to a heat recovery steam generator. The power unit, which has been operational for several weeks, is not currently operating at full capacity since it is intended to supply power and steam for the new refining units that are expected to be commissioned in the coming months.

SAMIR, which operates the facility with its own personnel, is hoping to obtain contracts for a supply of spare parts and maintenance services for the gas turbine and its auxiliary equipment. The company also wants a maintenance contract for the cogeneration equipment such as the heat recovery steam generator, pumps and air compressors.

SAMIR has two industrial sites in Morocco, located in Mohammedia and Sidi-Kacem, which meets about 80% of the country's demand for petroleum products.
