Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The groundbreaking ceremony for Shenhua Group's (Beijing) 1,400-megawatt (MW), gas-fired cogeneration project was held in the Northeast Thermal Power Center in the Chaoyang District of Beijing City on September 28, 2012, according to an announcement from Shenhua Group on September 29.
As part of the Northeast Thermal Power Center, a key heat and power source planned in northeast region of Beijing that is to be jointly invested by Shenhua Group and Beijing Energy Investment Group Company Limited (Jingneng Group) (Beijing), the project will be able to add 1,800 MW of new generating capacity and 1,254 MW of heat supply capacity to the capital city upon completion.
As reported, the Northeast Thermal Power Center is the fourth regional thermal power center. It kicked off construction following the southeast, southwest and northwest thermal power center projects. Based on a principle of a single center, with two power plants under united planning and joint cooperation, Shenhua Group and Jingneng Group will each build and operate two sets of F-class, gas-fired cogeneration units in the Northeast Thermal Power Center. Early in July 2010, Shenhua Group and Jingneng Group received preliminary approval to kick off pre-stage preparations for the Northeast Thermal Power Center in the northeast side of the planned cyclic economic industrial park in Chaoyang District. In December 2011 and March 2012, Jingneng's gas-fired cogeneration project and Shenhua Group's gas-fired cogeneration project received approval from the municipal government of Beijing.
According to the schedule, the Northeast Thermal Power Center will be put into operation by the end of 2013.
Among the leaders and representatives who attended the ceremony were Zhang Xiwu, the chairman of Shenhua Group, Wang Pingang, the vice president of Shenhua Group, and Hong Feng, the deputy mayor of Beijing City, according to Shenhua Group's announcement.
