Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--One of the four active units at the coal-fired Cross Generating Station, which is located in Pineville, South Carolina, was taken out of service last week. The plant is owned and operated by Santee Cooper (Moncks Corner, South Carolina).
Unit 3, which produces 600 megawatts (MW), was taken offline following a boiler tube leak. Plant personnel also said there was an issue with the units' pulverizer, which crushes the coal that fuels the unit.
Maintenance on the equipment is expected to be completed Friday, with plans to return the unit to service Saturday, if there are no delays.
Unit 3 was taken offline just after the 652-MW Unit 4 was returned to service following a month-long maintenance outage.
The Cross Generating Station has four units with a total capacity of 2,390-MW when at full load.
