Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Generating Station, which is located in Jenkinsville, South Carolina, cuts its 966-megawatt (MW) unit's load on the morning of Monday, January 5, following an issue with a drain line. A small amount of leakage was detected, according to personnel. The station is owned by SCANA Corporation (NYSE:SCG) (Cayce, South Carolina).
The unit was operating at 86% on Monday, with 135 MW offline. It will remain at or near the current level until repairs are completed. Officials said that they have no plans at this point to take the unit completely offline, but they will continue to investigate while repairs are under way.
The unit should return to full capacity by Friday, January 9, if there are no delays.
The plant has only one operational unit.
