Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--U.S. construction firm Suffolk Construction (Boston, Massachusetts) has gained a strong foothold in construction jobs for the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry, particularly in the Boston area that the company calls home. Industrial Info is tracking $1.8 billion worth of active projects involving Suffolk, most of which are for life science companies, with a smattering of exceptions for e-commerce giant Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington).

Among the largest projects on which Suffolk is at work is a 16-story building for Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (Tokyo, Japan) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Construction on the brownfield site began in late 2022 and is expected to wrap up in 2026, resulting in a 600,000-square-foot, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified building. The facility will be equipped for research and development (R&D) in the fields of oncology, hematology, neuroscience and more and will include 15,000 square feet of public space and a 400-seat viewing theater. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry Project Database can click here to learn more about the project.

While the Cambridge project still has years remaining, another Boston-area project on which Suffolk is acting as construction manager is wrapping up. Real estate firm Beacon Capital Partners LLC (Boston) is investing in a brownfield site by constructing a 10-story, 380,000-square-foot facility that will be equipped for single or multiple life companies' R&D activities. Another Boston life-sciences project on which Suffolk is acting as general contractor is in its third phase of construction. Phase III construction at real estate developer Samuels & Associates' Boston Landmark Center entails building a 14-story, approximately 550,000-square-foot building to house life science and other technology-driven companies. Construction on the site commenced in 2022 and is expected to wrap toward the middle of next year. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.

While most of Suffolk's pharmaceutical-biotech projects presently under construction are in the Boston area, a project that is just getting started is located outside of the company's hometown. The renovation of Northwell Health's (New Hyde Park, New York) Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset, New York, will entail renovating the second and third floors and constructing a new Biosafety Level-3 laboratory to study infectious diseases, along with office space. Construction work on the project is imminent and is expected to last about a year. Subscribers can click here to learn more.

Finally, a couple of projects for Amazon have Suffolk working well outside of the life science sector. In 2021, on a 26-acre site in Hayward, California, Suffolk began demolishing unused buildings to make way for a new data center for Amazon. Construction is expected to be completed in the coming months, when a three-story, 279,000-square-foot building, operating on 49 megawatts of power, will be unveiled, allowing for the increased performance of Amazon's cloud data services in the region.

On the other side of the country in Brooklyn, New York, Suffolk is at work on a grassroot distribution/last mile delivery center for Amazon. When completed later this year, the building will boast three stories with more than 336,000 square feet to better serve Amazon's customers in the area. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project reports on the data center and distribution facility.
