Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Consulting and engineering services firm Tetra Tech Incorporated (NASDAQ:TTEK) (Pasadena, California) is keeping busy in the U.S., with involvement in more than $18.8 billion in projects covering a range of sectors including liquefied natural gas (LNG), pipelines and power.
Among the company's biggest projects for which it is acting as a consultant is Cheniere Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:LNG) LNG Train 3 in Corpus Christi, Texas, which is nearing completion. Construction on the train began in the summer of 2018, with Bechtel Corporation (Reston, Virginia) providing engineering, procurement and construction services. In last week's third-quarter earnings conference call, Cheniere Chief Executive Officer Jack Fusco said, "Corpus Christi Train 3 is about 97% complete, and the commissioning process is progressing very well, with feed gas introduced into the train in October. We expect first LNG production from Train 3 in the coming weeks." Substantial completion is expected in first-quarter 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Another project on which Tetra Tech is a consultant isn't faring quite as well. Equitrans Midstream Corporation's (NYSE:ETRN) (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) Mountain Valley Pipeline will carry natural gas approximately 303 miles from northwestern West Virginia to southern Virginia. However, the pipeline has faced a number of permitting problems, the most recent having occurred earlier this week when a U.S. federal appeals court issued a stay of water crossing permits needed for completion. The stay will remain in effect the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals makes a ruling. Equitrans continues to work on portions of the pipeline not affected by the permits and has repeatedly forecast a 2021 start date for the pipeline. Click here for a list of related project reports.
Tetra Tech also is consulting on some wind power projects, including Iberdrola SA's (Bilbao, Spain) La Joya Phase 2 windfarm addition, near Estancia, New Mexico. The addition includes the construction of 75 2-megawatt (MW) wind turbines to generate 150 MW. Construction began in the first quarter of this year and is expected to wrap up in early 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
As renewables dominate the new-build power landscape in the U.S., coal-fired plants continue to close, and Tetra Tech is working on one of the biggest of these. The 2,250-MW Navajo Generating Station near Page, Arizona, in the north-central region of the state, provided electrical power to customers in Arizona, Nevada and California. The first unit was completed in 1974, and the plant ceased commercial operations late 2019. Dismantlement/demolition is underway and is expected to take about three years to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the power station dismantlement/demolition and the ash pond closure.
Away from the energy sectors, Tetra Tech is a consultant on at least one Pharma-Biotech project. Construction on Sanofi-Genzyme Corporation's (Cambridge, Massachusetts) Master Plan Phase I manufacturing block expansion in Framingham, Massachusetts, kicked off in 2017 and is still a few years away from completion. The project entails demolishing two warehouse/industrial buildings, and constructing and equipping 150,000 square feet of new manufacturing space for the production of biopharmaceuticals, along with office space. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
