TotalEnergies Launches Construction of Offshore Windfarm in France

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--French energy major TotalEnergies (NYSE:TTE) (Courbevoie, France) has started construction of the Eolmed wind project, located 15 kilometers off Gruissan, on the western part of the French south coast. The 30-megawatt project is expected to be fully commissioned in 2024.

The project received the green light shortly after the developers secured 85 million euros (US$91 million) in financing from the European Investment Bank.

EolMed became the first floating windfarm to carry out citizen financing in France in 2018, when it ran its first crowdfunding campaign. Based on earlier success, a new crowdfunding campaign was launched on May 12 targeting another 2 million euros (US$3.22 million).

France's government is targeting 40 gigawatts of offshore wind power by 2050.
