Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Reaching a milestone, We Energies (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is at least 70% complete with the construction of the wet scrubber project at the Pleasant Prairie Power Station in Wisconsin. The project was initiated during the summer of 2004 and is designed to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions. See related November 2, 2004, news article - We Energies Installs $250 Million Scrubber at Wisconsin Coal-Fired Plant.
The majority of We Energies electricity is generated by its coal-fired plants, the Pleasant Prairie plant and the four-unit, 1,110-megawatt coal-fired Oak Creek Power Station (Oak Creek, Wisconsin).
Additional future capital projects for the company include unit upgrades, as well as environmental emission reduction projects. For example, We Energies is preparing preliminary engineering for a major upgrade coming up in the spring of 2007 at Oak Creek on the 275-megawatt Unit #6 which includes an Allis-Chalmers turbine/generator with a Foster Wheeler front-fired dry bottom boiler. Serving as the E+P+C (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor, Siemens Power Generation (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) will be replacing the high-pressure turbine, control valves plus auxiliary equipment.
The project scope is being performed for a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system to be installed on all units at the plant by 2010 along with a scrubber unit in 2012.
A sizeable amount of We Energies electricity comes from the 1,065-megawatt Point Beach Nuclear Power Station (Two Rivers, Wisconsin). A 40-day refueling outage is already being planned on the Westinghouse pressurized-water-reactor in the spring of 2007.
