YPFB to Perform Modernization Project at Gualberto Villarroel Refinery in Bolivia

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) (La Paz, Bolivia), the owner and operator of the 27,500-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Gualberto Villarroel refinery in Cochabamba, Bolivia, is currently developing several modernization projects to expand the refinery's production capacity.

A specially dedicated engineering group has been designated to carry out a survey and create a preliminary engineering plan to repair a 12,500-BBL/d crude distillation unit. The $5 million project involves upgrading a unit that has been out of service since 1982, allowing the company to comply with current laws and standards and be able to produce liquefied petroleum gas and gasoline.

Bidding for the project will commence this July. Mechanical work is expected to begin by February 2011, and the completion of the project is expected by March 2012.
