Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Triton Minerals (ASX:TON.AX) (Perth, Australia) plans to supply 100,000 tonnes per year of Mozambican graphite to Yichang Xincheng Graphite (Yichang, China), in a 20-year deal worth more than $2 billion.

The agreement does not restrict Triton from selling graphite to other companies.

"This is a very special day for Triton, as this binding commercial agreement is with a graphite specialist organization that has mined, manufactured and sold expanded graphite products for nearly 20 years," said Brad Boyle, Triton's managing director.

The Australian company has three graphite projects in Mozambique, all sited in Cabo Delgado Province. The agreement is based on the Nicanda Hill deposit, which is reported to be the world's largest known deposit of graphite and uranium.

Triton has entered into a strategic partnership with graphite specialists AMG Mining (Hauzenberg, Germany). The two companies will collaborate on the exploration, identification and development of graphite deposits in Mozambique's Ancuabe district.

Boyle said AMG is one of the world's leading graphite companies and would bring knowledge, experience and expertise in the graphite sector to the partnership.

Graphite, as a conductor of electricity, is used in batteries and fuel cells and is the basic material for the 'miracle material' graphene, which is the strongest material ever measured, with vast potential for use in the electronics sector.
