Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Nigerian government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Xian Electric Company (Xian, China) to implement a $500 million project schedule to develop, upgrade and build the country's creaking power transmission network over a two-year period.
The project is expected to be financed by the China Export-Import (Exim) Bank at low interest concessionary loan terms. The project will be designed and supervised by Manitoba Hydro International (MHI) (Winnipeg, Manitoba), which is the appointed management contractor for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). MHI and TCN will also be engaged to construct new substations.
The Xian group will liaise with relevant government agencies to execute the projects according to agreed specifications and timelines.
