NavigatIIR: U.S. Battery Storage Projects Join Energy Industry

SUGAR LAND--August 31, 2020--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) are being installed at a growing pace across the U.S., from 59 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity by the end of 2010 to 869 MW by the end of 2018, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). But like any other corner of the domestic energy market, BESS projects are witnessing slowdowns and, in some cases, are being threatened with cancellations as the industry struggles with the COVID-19 pandemic's economic wrath. Industrial Info is tracking more than $26 billion in active BESS projects across the U.S., including about $1.9 billion worth that have been delayed or otherwise affected by COVID-19 precautions.

Within this article: Details on some of the projects to face COVID-19 problems amid the BESS resurgence, including those from major companies such as Obsidian Renewables LLC, Clearway Energy Incorporated, Global Infrastructure Partners, EDF Renewables North America and Calpine Corporation.
