Preem Petroleum Preparing for Minor Overhaul at Swedish Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Preem AB (Stockholm, Sweden), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Corral Petroleum Holdings AB, is planning a minor maintenance shutdown in September at its 210,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Preemraff Gotheburg refinery in Gothenburg, Sweden. The overhaul will entail regenerating the reactors' catalysts in the 24,000-BBL/d catalytic reformer, as well as inspections on the other processing units. The overhaul is expected to last 15 nonproduction days.

The refinery consists of a production area with two crude distillation units with a combined capacity of 126,000 BBL/d, two 25,000-BBL/d naphtha desulfurization units, a mild hydrocracker, an 11,300-BBL/d isomerization unit and a tank farm facility for the storage of crude oil, semi-manufactured product components and finished products, among other things.

Preem produces 80% of the petroleum refined in Sweden and holds 30% of the Nordic region's refinery capacity. About 65% of the products from the company's two production sites -- Preemraff Lysekil and Preemraff Goteborg -- is exported, making Preem the country's largest exporter. The company has a nationwide service network of 480 Preem petrol stations and 215 truck stops/roadside filling stations for HGVs. Preem has more than 1,300 employees, 900 of whom work at the refineries.
