Fire Forces Shutdown at ExxonMobil Baytown Chemical Plant in Texas, an Industrial Info Market Brief
A fire on Wednesday at ExxonMobil's Baytown, Texas, chemical complex forced the shutdown of the 2.6 billion-pound-per-year BOP ethylene unit at the site. The fire was in a tower in an area of the plant that contains polypropylene material. ExxonMobil's nearby 557,000 barrel-per-day Baytown Refinery remained operating despite the fire.
Local authorities issued a shelter-in-place for residents near the plant. The blaze caused multiple minor injuries, according to news media accounts.
Industrial Info continues to research the details of the shutdown and a better understanding of a restart date.
