Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Arkalon Ethanol LLC (Hayne, Kansas), a subsidiary of investor-owned Conestoga Energy Partners LLC (Liberal, Kansas), is accepting corn and preparing this week in anticipation of grinding corn and starting ethanol production before the new year arrives.
The plant will have a nameplate capacity of 110 million gallons of fuel ethanol per year and will require more than 42 million bushels of corn feedstock annually. ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) was the design-build contractor for the estimated $160 million plant, and the company is currently on-site assisting with start-up procedures.
Construction of the plant began in September 2006 in Hayne in Seward County in southwestern Kansas some 7 miles from the Oklahoma-Kansas state line.
Conestoga put its first ethanol plant, Bonanza BioEnergy LLC (Garden City, Kansas), a 55 million-gallon-per-year plant online in August of this year, and it is now running at full capacity.
The company is also developing Boot Hill Biofuels LLC (Dodge City, Kansas), a planned 110 million plant that will be located in Dodge City, Kansas. ICM is expected to take the design-build role for this project, as well, when construction gets going in spring 2008.
After all the additional capacity is online, Conestoga will have the capacity of producing more than 275 million gallons of fuel ethanol annually.
