Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--China Nuclear Industry Fifth Construction Company Limited (CNEC5) (Shanghai), a subsidiary of China Nuclear Engineering Construction Corporation (CNECC) (Beijing), the construction contractor of CPI Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant, completed the erection of the upper man-door for Unit 1 on November 15, 2012. So far, all four access gates for the nuclear island of Unit 1 have been erected into their final positions, according to an announcement from China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) (Beijing) on November 19.
The containing vessel (CV) of Unit 1 is furnished with two gates for staff access (one upper man-door and one lower man-door) and two gates for equipment access (the upper gate and the lower gate). The man-door has a cylinder shape with a diameter of about 3 meters, a length of more than 6 meters, and net weights of about 26 metric tons each. The equipment access gate is about 4 meters in diameter, with a net weight of about 25 metric tons. The lower man-door was erected into its final position on June 14 this year. The upper and lower equipment access gate was erected on September 27 and March 9, 2012, respectively.
The Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant is located at Liugezhuang Town in Haiyang City, in northern China's Shandong province. The power plant has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units, with space reserved for future expansions. Shandong Nuclear Power Company Limited (Yantai, Shandong), a joint venture under the control of China Power Investment Corporation (Beijing) (40%), with the participation of China Nuclear Power Corporation (Beijing) (20%), China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) (20%), China Huaneng Group (Beijing) (5%), and two local power investors from Shandong and Yantai are responsible for the construction and future operations of the project.
As a support project for the localization of the third-generation nuclear power unit in China, Phase I of the project will be furnished with two 1,250-MW, AP-1000-based nuclear power units. Construction of Phase I began on December 28, 2009. According to the schedule, the first unit of the project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2014.
