Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the kickoff of construction for the main pipeline works for Unit 1 in January 2013, Jiangsu Electric Power Construction No.3 Engineering Company Limited (JEPC3) (Zhenjiang, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), completed the rotor erection for Unit 1 of Haiyang Nuclear Power Station on March 4, 2013. Completion of the rotor erection means that the generator erection has entered a new stage, according to an announcement from the CEEC on March 8, 2013.

The generator rotor of Unit 1 was designed and manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric. It is 17 meters long, with a maximum diameter of 1.96 meters and a weight of about 203 metric tons.

The Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant is located at Liugezhuang Town in Haiyang City, in northern China's Shandong province. The power plant has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units, with space reserved for future expansions. Shandong Nuclear Power Company Limited (Yantai, Shandong), a joint venture of China Power Investment Corporation (Beijing) (40%), China Nuclear Power Corporation (Beijing) (20%), China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) (20%), China Huaneng Group (Beijing) (5%) and other two local power investors from Shandong and Yantai, is responsible for the construction and future operation of the project.

As a support project for the localization of the third generation of nuclear power units in China, Phase I of the project will be furnished with two 1,250-MW, AP-1000-based nuclear power units. Construction of Phase I kicked off on December 28, 2009. The project was planned to begin commercial operations in the first quarter of 2014. According to the latest schedule, the two units of the project are expected to begin commercial operations in December 2014 and 2016. Upon completion, the project will be able to generate 17.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year.
