According to the Pulse of the Mexican Rail Sector report by the Rail Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF), rail freight transport fell slightly between January and May, after 35,467 million tons-kilometer of goods and supplies were mobilized, a decrease of 0.73% compared to the same period in 2019.

Despite the fall, in May there was a rebound of 0.55% compared to April, after 6,599.72 million tons-kilometer were transferred. Likewise, 20,329 million tons-kilometer of imported goods and inputs and 4,174 million tons-kilometer of exports were transferred from January to May, which represented 24,503 million tons-kilometer of international rail traffic, an increase of 1.68% compared to the same period in 2019.

For passenger rail service, a total of 15.44 million people traveled from January to May, of which 15.34 million did so on suburban trains, a decrease of 34.92% from 2019. In May, 1.16 million people traveled on suburban trains and 4,713 traveled other ways, which was a drop of 76.07% compared to the same period in 2019.
