Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for units 1 and 2 at Fujian Ningde Nuclear Power Company Limited's (FNNPC) (Ningde, Fujian) Ningde Nuclear Power Plant, prior to the first fuel loading, received approval from the Ministry of Environment Protection (MEP) in August 2012, according to an announcement from the MEP on August 15, 2012.

The Ningde Nuclear Power Plant is located at the coast of the East China Sea in Qinyu Town, Fuding city, in southeast China's Fujian province. The plant has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) units that are based on an improved second generation of advanced pressurized water reactors. The units are to be built in two phases. Construction on Phase I for units 1 and 2 began on November 21, 2008, and June 17, 2009, respectively.

As a joint venture of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen, Guangdong), Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Beijing, China) and Fujian Coal Industry (Group) Company Limited (Fuzhou, China), FNNPC serves as the project owner. China Nuclear Power Engineering Company Limited (Shenzhen), a subsidiary of CGNPC, serves as the general contractor of the project. China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Construction Company Limited (Nanjing, Jiangsu) and China Nuclear Industry 23rd Construction Corporation (Beijing), two subsidiaries of China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation (Beijing), are responsible for the construction and nuclear island erection works of the project, respectively.

As reported, Unit 1 of Ningde Nuclear Power Plant completed the hot test in June 2012. The receiving of the EIA report prior to the first fuel loading indicates that the project is ready to go into operation shortly.
