Giant Industries Plans New Mexico Refinery Restart This Week

Giant Industries Incorporated (NYSE:GI) (Scottsdale, Arizona) temporarily shutdown the 26,000 b/d Ciniza Refinery in Jamestown, near Gallup, New Mexico, on December 27, 2006, after a fire broke out in a heater on one of the units. Giant plans to begin heating up all of the refinery’s units, including the Crude Unit and Catalytic Cracker during New Year’s weekend with plans to have the refinery back on stream by Wednesday, January 3, 2007.

The diesel hydrotreater affected by the fire will remain offline for 6-7 weeks while technicians repair the fire-damaged heater. Earlier this year, Giant Industries completed a $14 million upgrade to the diesel hydrotreater unit.
