Husky Energy Begins Construction on Saskatchewan Ethanol Plant
Some 12.9 million bushels of locally grown grains will be used as feedstock for the plant
Released Monday, December 06, 2004
Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). One of Canada's integrated energy company's, Husky Energy Incorporated (OTC:HUSKF) (Calgary, Alberta), has begun construction on a fuel ethanol plant that will be located at the firm's heavy oil upgrader facility in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan.
The 34 million gallon per year ethanol plant, the largest in Western Canada, officially broke ground in late October 2004. The company is anticipating having the facility fully operational by June of 2006. Some 12.9 million bushels of locally grown grains will be used as feedstock for the plant, and 134,000 tons of dried distillers' grain byproducts will also be produced.
The company selected Katzen International (Cincinnati, Ohio) to provide the technology and design for this estimated $45 million project and contractors are currently on-site performing site work and pre-construction activities for the facility.
Husky will also be entitled to some $7.8 million in funding from the Canadian government to aid in building the plant, under Canada's $100 million Ethanol Expansion Program. The Ethanol Expansion Program went into effect in August of 2003, to encourage ethanol plant development throughout Canada. Six ethanol plants are currently in operation in Canada and another fifteen are in various stages of development that could add an estimated 475 million gallons annually to the country's renewable fuel program.
Husky Energy is an integrated energy company that ranks among Canada's largest petroleum companies in terms of production and the value of its asset base. Upstream activities are currently focused in Western Canada, offshore Eastern Canada, and in China.
