IIR Top Refining News Today: March 18th 2020

Marathon continues with a plant-wide maintenance turnaround, which began on February 27, at its 64,000-BBL/d Salt Lake City, Utah, refinery. The event is scheduled to be completed by April 2, when the units will be back online.

Marathon continues with a plant-wide maintenance turnaround, which began on February 27, at its 64,000-BBL/d Salt Lake City, Utah, refinery. IIR has confirmed that the refinery was not impacted by an earthquake in the area early this morning. The turnaround is scheduled to be completed by April 2.

Consumer Co-Operative Refineries Limited will postpone a 40-day planned maintenance turnaround involving five units, which was scheduled for April 2, at its 130,000-BBL/d Regina, Saskatchewan, refinery, due to the COVID-19 virus. The turnaround now is expected to be performed on or around May 15.

Valero has suspended a 55-day major turnaround on the 170,000-BBL/d Crude 1, 32,000-BBL/d Reformer, 70,000 BBL/d Diesel Hydrotreater and 40,000-BBL/d Kerosene Hydrotreater units at its 265,000-BBL/d Jean Gaulin, Canada, refinery, due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak. The turnaround had been scheduled to start in early April 2020. A new turnaround date has not been established.

International
SK Energy Company Limited began a 27-day planned turnaround of the 40,000-BBL/d VRDS (Vacuum Residue Desulfurization) unit on March 18 at its 840,000-BBL/d Ulsan Nam-gu, South Korea, complex. Expectations are to complete repairs and resume normal operations by April 13.

Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refining Company (YASREF) restarted its 400,000-BBL/d Yanbu Refinery in Saudi Arabia on March 15. The refinery had been under a planned maintenance shutdown since February 1.

Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has rescheduled a 25-day planned major maintenance turnaround of the Phase 2 block, which includes six major units, at its 300,000-BBL/d Mangalore Refinery in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The turnaround, which was planned to start March 20, is now planned to tentatively begin on April 15. Expectations are to complete repairs and restart the unit by May 9.
