India's Bharat Petroleum Plans $3.1 Billion Refinery Expansion

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In the advent of enhancing and upgrading the refining capacity, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) (BSE:500547) has rolled out a massive expansion plan for its Kochi Refinery complex in Kochi, Kerala. The $3.1 billion upgrade and expansion programme will increase production of refined products and will implement clean-fuel technology.

The project will increase the capacity of the existing refinery by 120,000 barrels per day (BBL/d).

As a part of the upgrade and expansion program, several major units will be added, including a 120,000-BBL/d crude unit; 60,000-BBL/d vacuum gasoil hydrotreater; 85,000-BBL/d delayed coker unit; 40,000-BBL/d fluid catalytic cracker unit; 85,000-BBL/d diesel hydrotreater; as well as a sulphur recovery unit, amine regeneration unit and other equipment.

Engineers India Limited (BSE:532178) (EIL) (New Delhi) has started working on the feasibility study for the project.

Kochi Refinery, located in Ambalmugal, near the city of Kochi in Kerala, is one of BPCL's two refineries. The current product portfolio of the 190,000-BBL/d refinery today includes petrochemical feedstocks and specialty products in addition to a range of quality fuels.
