The $2 billion project entails constructing a 9.8-mile track between the Floral Park and Hicksville train stations, and performing upgrades to stations and railroad infrastructure to improve rail service and reliability. Design-build services are being provided by 3rd Track Constructors (Lawrence, New York), and Gannett Fleming Incorporated (New York, New York) is the engineer. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Distribution center and warehouse projects feature prominently in the region's project starts and completions. Among the biggest to kick off this quarter is Advance Realty's (Bridgewater, New Jersey) construction of a logistics center in Linden, New Jersey. On a 350-acre site, eight warehouse buildings with a total footprint of 1.4 million square feet will be constructed. F. Greek Development (East Brunswick, New Jersey) is the project manager. In New York, Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) will begin construction on a grassroot distribution center in Schodack Landing. The facility will be more than 1 million square feet and will feature 95 loading docks and 300 tractor-trailer spaces. Amazon also will wrap up a major project in the region during the quarter. Construction on Building 3 at the company's Staten Island, New York, fulfillment center began in the summer of 2017, with Blue Rock Construction Incorporated (Burlington, New Jersey) as the general contractor. The 855,000-square-foot building will enable Amazon to pack and ship orders to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut more quickly. Construction is expected to be completed soon. Among the largest projects to be completed in the quarter is FedEx Corporation's (NYSE:FDX) (Memphis, Tennessee) construction of its $405 million mega-hub distribution center near Allentown, Pennsylvania.
