Industrial Info's Weekly North American Refining Report

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info's weekly North American Refining Report gives you the latest inside intelligence on outages, derates, shutdowns, closures, delays and more. Tomorrow's news today...

Market Commentary:
Storage is a buildin' as total petroleum inventories increased by 9.7 million barrels per day (BBL/d) last week; although we did witness an uptick in crude runs to 13.5 million BBL/d, an increase of 178,000 BBL/d. Still, it will take quite some time to work off all this surplus, especially when the Fed comes out projecting the U.S. economy will shrink 6.5% this year. Demand will struggle to return; moreso as COVID-19 is back as a concern, with U.S. cases topping the 2 million mark.

So interesting times are indeed here in North America as one tries to get a good handle on the overall supply and demand picture and its impact on the energy industry. Therefore, within this North America Refining Report, Industrial Info hopes to shed some light on what is transpiring from a refinery operations in the U.S. and Canada. The report incorporates a North America Refinery Map as well as area charts to illustrate collectively when we can expect refinery capacity to return over the next month or so. For the U.S., IIR is providing a chart to indicate when we might expect PADDs themselves to become healthier.

Petroleum Refining Highlights
June 12, 2020 Marathon, June 12, restarted the 36,800 b/d Hydrocracker unit at its 103,500 b/d Wilmington, California refinery after being shut for unknown reasons on June 9. The refinery is still de-rated due to COVID-19. The same hydrocracker had previously been shut April 15-17.

June 12, 2020 IIR has learned that Klesch Group will not begin operating the 225,000-BBL/d Willemstad Isla, Curacao refinery, in June-July 2020 as previously agreed due to the spread of COVID-19 and inability to move personnel from Europe to the island. In fact, it is not certain if Klesch Group will operate the refinery in 2020. All processing units, still operated by PDVSA, remain offline due to unplanned events followed by lack of crude and financial issues, and will be kept as such until September 2020. Maintenance and repair work performed on major offline units is complete; only preventive work being is performed.

June 12, 2020 Dow Chemical idled Train C in the approximately 932 million-pound-per-year Poly 3 unit at the Freeport, Texas, plant for June. The train was taken offline due to market conditions.
